What is WAP

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) – immediate access to the Internet resources from mobile phones. There are special WAP sites on the Internet and information can be accessible from mobile phones.

What is necessary to use WAP?

• Availability of WAP-browser on your mobile phone;
• Data transmission service should be activated on your mobile number. This service is necessary for information interchange with WAP-sites. To all subscribers of "MTS-Uzbekistan GSM" the installation of the "Data transmission" service is free of charge.

Setting up WAP-browser

If you have two above-stated parameters, then You should set up the WAP-service in your phone. Usually, the settings in different telephones of manufacturer are identical. Settings of WAP-service of the most popular mobile phone manufacturers are given below.

How to use WAP-browser

To check whether you activated WAP-browser or not find in the menu of the phone section " Services " and select " In a beginning ". A word " Connecting " must appear on the display of the phone. Please be patient as connection might take some time. If you have adjusted and entered correct data in settings the prompt site will appear on a screen of the phone. If there were mistakes or errors in settings the appropriate message will be given, then it is necessary to check set-up parameters (see article 2 of the instruction). Sections of WAP-browser:

• "Home" – connecting you with the site that you have entered in settings as home page;
• "Bookmarks" - list of WAP-sites addresses recorded in the memory of the phone, (selection of address and connection, deleting, changing etc.);
• "Service Inbox" - not used;
• "Go to address" – enter WAP-site address that you want to view;
• "See address" - input of address of the WAP-site from the keyboard of the phone;
• "Clear the cache" - clearing of temporary memory of the phone used during with WAP-site communication session.

Structure of WAP-site

The menu and the structure of WAP-site completely depend on the site developer. After you get connected with the site generally there are following options:

• To select one of the choices of the site;
• To activate the given section through "open link";
• To follow further instructions at the bottom of a screen.

For example we will show the operational procedure with one of the known mail servers: wap.yahoo.com. You can check your e-mail using WAP-browser on your phone (only if you have valid yahoo e-mail address):

1. Enter "Services" in the menu of the phone
2. If you entered "wap.yahoo.com" into "Bookmarks" than you can select a bookmark "wap.yahoo.com".
3. If you do not have such "Bookmark", please type "wap.yahoo.com" in "Go to address" section and press "Select"
4. The phone will contact the site (you might have to wait a little);
5. If connected, "Yahoo!ID" will appear where you have to enter your username, "password" – where you have to enter your password, then select "Submit", and then select "Open link". A text with list of options will appear (Inbox, Sent, etc.) and then you choose according to appearing site options and instructions.
